Loan Without Guarantor Malaysia 2026: Pinjaman Tanpa Penjamin
Most personal loans in Malaysia, from banks and from KPKT licensed money lenders, do not require a guarantor. What replaces the guarantor is clear proof of income, a realistic loan amount and a reasonable credit record. A guarantor is usually requested only when the applicant's profile is thin, the amount is large relative to income, or the product is designed around one, as with some education loans and business financing.
This guide explains which loans are normally guarantor-free, what lenders assess instead, the documents to prepare, a realistic amount, and the "paid guarantor" traps to avoid.
Quick Answer
| Question | Short answer |
|---|---|
| Do I need a guarantor for a personal loan? | Usually not, subject to assessment |
| What replaces the guarantor? | Provable income, sensible DSR, clean recent repayment conduct |
| Which loans often need one? | Some education loans, certain microfinance schemes, large business loans (director guarantee) |
| What amount is realistic without one? | Whatever keeps your DSR under about 60% |
| Can I use a "paid guarantor" or a fake one? | Never. It is fraud or a scam |
1. Why Some Lenders Ask for a Guarantor
A guarantor agrees to pay if you do not. Lenders ask for one when:
- The credit file is thin. Young applicants or people who have never held credit.
- Income is low or irregular. Salary close to the minimum, or commission income that swings.
- The amount is large relative to income. A request far above visible repayment capacity.
- The product is built around a guarantor. Student loans, some microcredit schemes, and company loans that require a director's personal guarantee.
- There is an unresolved credit blemish. Active arrears or legal status.
If none of these applies to you, a guarantor is rarely a condition.
2. Loans That Usually Do Not Need a Guarantor
| Loan type | Guarantor? | Assessed instead |
|---|---|---|
| Bank personal loan (salaried) | Usually no | Payslips, EPF, CCRIS, DSR |
| Licensed money lender personal loan | Usually no | Bank statements, payslips or alternative income proof, CTOS, affordability |
| Credit-card-based facilities | No | Existing card limit |
| Cooperative loan with salary deduction | Usually no | Membership and automatic deduction |
| Shariah-compliant personal financing | Usually no | Same as conventional bank |
MyPinjam Credit personal loans from RM5,000 to RM150,000 over 1 to 7 years are assessed on documents and affordability, with no standard guarantor requirement, subject to eligibility assessment.
3. Loans That Often Do Need a Guarantor
- Education loans. PTPTN has historically required guarantors for some categories, and bank education loans often name a parent as guarantor for students without income. See our education loan guide.
- Certain microfinance schemes. Some TEKUN or AIM products use guarantors or group guarantees.
- Large business loans. Banks and lenders typically require a director's personal guarantee for company borrowing.
- Young applicants with no record. Banks may ask for a guarantor for applicants under 25 with no credit history.
4. What Lenders Assess Instead of a Guarantor
Without a guarantor, the lender relies entirely on you. They look at:
- Provable income. Salary landing in your bank account every month, or clear business cash flow.
- Debt Service Ratio (DSR). Total monthly commitments including the new instalment, divided by income. Under 60% is generally comfortable.
- Recent repayment conduct. The last 6 to 12 months on CCRIS and CTOS.
- Employment stability. At least 3 to 6 months with the same employer or business.
- Amount and purpose. A request that matches income and a clear purpose.
The stronger the first four, the less anyone needs to vouch for you.
5. Simple Eligibility Table
| Criterion | Easier without guarantor | May need guarantor or smaller amount |
|---|---|---|
| Income | RM1,500 and above, paid into a bank account | Cash income with no bank record |
| Time in job | 6 months or more | Just started |
| DSR after new loan | Below 60% | Above 60% |
| CCRIS/CTOS | No active arrears | Active arrears or legal status |
| Amount requested | Matches income | Far above capacity |
6. Documents Checklist
Salaried employees
- MyKad (front and back)
- Latest 3 months of payslips
- Latest 3 months of bank statements
- EPF statement
Self-employed or commission earners
- MyKad
- SSM registration if available
- 6 months of bank statements
- Invoices, platform payout screenshots or a simple sales record
Complete, clear documents are your best "guarantor". If you have no payslip at all, read loans without a payslip.
7. Worked Example
An applicant earns RM3,200 a month, has worked 2 years at the same company, and pays RM250 for a motorcycle and RM100 to PTPTN. They apply for RM15,000 over 3 years.
- Existing commitments: RM350
- Estimated new instalment at 10% p.a. flat: (RM15,000 + RM4,500) / 36 = RM542
- DSR after the loan: (RM350 + RM542) / RM3,200 = 27.9%
With bank statements showing salary every month and a clean CCRIS, a case like this can normally be assessed without a guarantor. If the same applicant asked for RM60,000, the DSR would jump and the lender would ask for a smaller amount, a longer tenure, or security and a guarantor. Test your own figures on the loan calculator.
8. What a Guarantor Takes On
Understanding the guarantor's burden explains why applying on your own is better for everyone:
- The guarantor is fully liable for the balance if you default.
- The loan can appear in the guarantor's credit assessment and reduce their own eligibility.
- Legal action can be taken against the guarantor.
- Personal relationships often break when payments slip.
If you are asked to guarantee someone else's loan, weigh the same points.
9. What Not to Do
- Fake guarantor. Using someone's name without their knowledge is a criminal offence.
- "Paid guarantor" offers. Advertisements offering to "be your guarantor for a fee" are almost always scams or illegal lenders.
- Ah Long "no guarantor, no documents" loans. There is no guarantor because they use threats instead. Verify any lender with our KPKT licence check guide.
- Applying everywhere at once. Each application is recorded and weakens your profile.
10. Approval Timeline
| Channel | Typical time |
|---|---|
| Bank | 3 working days to 2 weeks |
| Licensed money lender (MyPinjam Credit) | Within 24 hours or less once documents are complete, subject to assessment |
| Cooperative | 1 to 4 weeks depending on salary deduction processing |
11. Risks and Responsible Borrowing
Without a guarantor, all the risk sits with you. Borrow the smallest amount that solves the problem, make sure the instalment fits after essential expenses, and read the agreement before signing. Licensed money lenders are capped at 18% per annum for unsecured loans. If you are borrowing to cover other debts every month, contact AKPK for free counselling before adding a commitment.
FAQ
Can I get a personal loan with no guarantor and no collateral?
Yes. Unsecured personal loans from banks and licensed money lenders normally require neither, subject to income and credit assessment.
Does MyPinjam Credit require a guarantor?
Not as a standard condition. Assessment is based on income documents, a CTOS check (one-time RM30 fee) and affordability.
I just started a new job. Can I apply without a guarantor?
It is harder. Most lenders want to see at least 3 to 6 months of consistent income. Waiting a few months and applying for a smaller amount usually works better.
Are loans without a guarantor more expensive?
Not necessarily. The rate depends on your profile and the type of lender, not on the absence of a guarantor.
Can I add a guarantor to borrow more?
Some lenders accept a guarantor to strengthen an application, but the safer approach is to borrow an amount that matches your own income.
What happens to a guarantor if I default?
The guarantor becomes liable for the outstanding balance and can face legal action. That is why a guarantor-free loan is better for everyone when your profile supports it.
